Personality: From the moment Nuka arrived in WA, after travelling at 8 weeks old from Victoria, he has been extremely confident and sociable. He has a very playful personality and loves his toys and packmates. Nuka is very respectful of other dogs and encourages healthy play. He is quite clever and loves to adventure to new places and meet new people. He is boisterous around adults but completely placid and gentle when cuddling children. He took to water quicker than any puppy I have ever raised and absolutely loves to swim. Nuka is quite a vocal boy and loves to talk back. His other cheeky antics include jumping to pull honky nuts from the trees as we walk past and leaping into the torchlight on our night walks to snatch moths from the air. As Nuka matured, so did his prey drive. He can be relaxed around our indoor cats but has shown a love of chasing small animals and will pull on the lead if he spots wildlife. This instinct has served him well in lure coursing and after year of puppy runs, his first official trial run was outstanding. He has a very bright future both in sports and in general ahead.
Accomplishments:
Sledding: Nuka will be beginning his racing career in 2026, working towards his Australian Sleddog Sports Association (ASSA) ‘Sled Dog’ (SD) title.
Lure Coursing: Nuka completed a full season of ‘puppy runs’ with Lure Coursers Anonymous (LCA) in 2025 and has trialed once, achieving a score of 165. He will be working towards his titles through the Australian Lure Coursing Association (ALCA) in the coming years.
Nuka participated unofficially in the 2025 Battle of the States (BOTS) event, held by LCA, and ran the 100 metres in 9.5 seconds.
Other:
Nuka has participated in WASSA sled dog demonstrations and Christmas parades annually since 2025, his ability to be showcased to the public in busy environments a testament to his well-balanced personality.
Nuka completed Running West Sled Dog Clubs ‘Iditarod in a Year Challenge’ and walked 1571 km over 2025.
