Personality: Xyl is a stunning example of the Alaskan Malamute, with champion bloodlines running through his veins. Aside from his show dog appearance, Xyl has a generally fantastic temperament. His strong, athletic body make his favourite activities running and swimming. He is very smart and easily food motivated as well as loyal but can sometimes be stubborn. Xyl is the most trainable dog currently in our pack and enjoys learning new tricks – particularly scent work and other challenges that work his brain and keen sense of smell. He is playful and friendly, with a dominant side to his personality. While he isn’t the fastest sprint racer, he puts his heart into pulling and loves every second of it. His prey drive isn’t as strong as our Australian Laikas, he loves our cats but can be wary of children and will howl to voice his uncertainties. As with all arctic breeds he can be vocal but is a very relaxed and calm presence in our house.
Accomplishments:
Sledding: Racing through ASSA and AFSS affiliated clubs, working towards his ASSA titles.
Xyl has competed in 11 dryland sledding races across Western Australia, one of which was a National Championship race, in various classes including Novice Scooter, 1 Dog Open, 2 Dog Open, Bikejoring and 2 Dog Bike. His fastest recorded average speed so far was 15.36 kmph over two heats totalling 4.6 km.
Lure Coursing: Trialing through LCA and working towards his ALCA titles.
Xyl achieved fastest Alaskan Malamute in Western Australia in the 2023 Battle of the States. His recorded time was 15.28 seconds for the 100 metre sprint.
Scent Work: Trialing through CASSA and working towards his CASSA titles.
Xyl has completed the advanced foundations and pre-trialing scent work courses with KivaDog Training. He has achieved a pass in ‘The Big D’, finding the odour ‘clove’ within 2 minutes, in a 30 square metre search area with 5 non-food distractions present.
Other: Xyl has earned his DMWYD Novice Trick Dog Title.
Pedigree:
Xyl’s bloodline consists of champions worldwide both in the show ring and in sports. On his father’s side, Xyl’s grandfather is a proven, working sled dog champion and his grandmother earnt her Australian Championship before focussing on gaining sporting titles. On his mother’s side, the Chayo line dogs have achieved UK Top Puppy, Uk No 1 Malamute for multiple years and Crufts champion awards, as well as Working Pack Dog, Sledding and Weight Pull titles. Xyl’s heritage has made him the strong, handsome male he is and we cannot wait to help him reach his full potential in sledding and other sports over the years.
